Denver Company Launches Distracted-Driving Prevention App
Denver, Colorado-based Avanquest Mobile Technologies has launched a new application to help prevent distracted driving. Named “Mobile Safe Driving” (MSD), it is the newest module in the myMobile Companion suite of software for protecting people, devices, and content, according to the company press release. Mobile Safe Driving is available on the Android platform, and versions for other operating systems will be out soon, the company said.
MSD runs on smartphones and stops drivers from sending and receiving text messages and phone calls while behind the wheel. It is automatically activated once a vehicle is moving more than 18 miles per hour, and can also be activated manually.
The new app includes a full set of features for critical control, monitoring, and notification, in addition to basic call and message blocking:
- Parents can authorize access to specific safe programs, such as navigation or music.
- Major activity, including speeding and switching off the phone, is logged, and parents are notified.
- Parents can see the route and present location of their child on an online map.
- Parents can select the time and means for notifications.
- A driver in an emergency can send a notification with one click.
“Safe driving is a paramount concern for parents of young drivers,” said David Wright, president, Avanquest Mobile Technologies. “And by leveraging our quarter-century of work with leading OEMs, operators, and other resellers around the world, we have developed an application that has both a comprehensive set of features that can be offered in the way that meets the localization and branding needs of our partners.”
Avanquest will present the entire myMobile Companion suite, including Mobile Safe Driving, at this year’s International CTIA Wireless Conference in New Orleans, May 8-10.
The application will be available through participating carriers, original equipment manufacturers, and resellers. Techrockies reports that the price of the app has not been disclosed. Avanquest has created a consumer-branded demo site. To see what consumers might experience, visit http://mymobilecompanion.com.
