Christmas Rollover in Vail Kills One, Injures Five
Manuel Urquidi, 29, of Las Vegas lost his life on Christmas day in a horrific rollover car accident in Vail, Colorado.
The Glenwood Springs Post Independent brings us details of the crash:
Urquidi died from injuries sustained in the crash, which happened around 3:30 p.m. Saturday, when he lost control of the SUV he was driving eastbound on Interstate 70 near East Vail. He was ejected from the vehicle when it rolled over into the westbound lanes. Police suspect Urquidi was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
There were five other passengers in the SUV. Fortunately, they all survived with minimal personal injuries.
According to reports, the emergency response team needed the “Jaws of Life” to rescue Adriana Villegas, 24, who was trapped in the SUV after the accident. She is currently listed in stable condition at Vail Valley Medical Center. The four children in the vehicle were treated at Gypsum Urgent Care clinic. One was taken to Vail Valley Medical Center for observation, but the other three have been released. According to police, there is a possibility that three of the children were not wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
Vail Daily reports that alcohol may have been involved in the crash, as well:
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but police say they have reason to believe alcohol may have been a factor.
‘Evidence gathered at the scene indicates alcohol was involved,’ said Cmdr. Joe Ribeiro of the Vail Police, saying he couldn’t be more specific because the incident is still under investigation.
