GEICO Launches Tricky Traffic App to Help Teen Drivers
In conjunction with the National Teen Driver Safety Week, which ran on Oct. 14-20, GEICO released a new mobile app to teach young drivers the rules of the road. The app, a game called GEICO Tricky Traffic (GTT), presents players with challenges in a digital town called Geckoville at the same time that it entertains them.
As a GEICO press release says:
For example, while you’re cruising through the streets of Geckoville, pedestrians will spring across your path as they make their way through busy intersections. Cars will come at you at high-speeds. When should you stop, turn and yield to oncoming cars and pedestrians? Can you keep a safe distance between cars?
Throughout the game, your reaction time will be tested as you size up each driving situation.
The “GEICO Tricky Traffic game is one of the company’s first apps specifically made for young drivers. However, many experienced drivers might find it entertaining and challenging, similar to the Guinea Pig Getaway app,” said Peter Meoli, GEICO’s mobile development team manager.
GTT supports iPhone, iPad, and Android versions 2.2 and up. The blog Apps Affair listed GEICO Tricky Traffic as one of its best apps of the day, pointing out that it is free and 23.5 MB, and also noting:
In this game you must try to keep the roads safe despite all of the traffic. You can make traffic move faster by swiping on cars so they accelerate. To stop a car all you have to do is tap on it. It won’t be easy when cars come from all different directions, but it is up to you to keep the traffic flowing […] safely!

Geico Teen Driving notes that car crashes are the leading cause of death among teens, and goes on to say:
GEICO is making an effort to help save lives and improve driving skills among teens by spreading the word about road and highway safety. On geicoteendriving.com, you can watch teen driving videos, read about safe driving tips and reminders and learn the teen driving laws in your state.
You can find a challenging 11-question crash facts quiz about teens and driving linked to Geico’s Teen Driving Page: http://www.geicoteendriving.com/index.php/auto-safety/13. Among the surprising facts are which day of the year has the most accident deaths, the peak time when most crashes occur, and how many teens are involved in vehicle crashes every year.
