Lafayette Man Gains Musical Talent From Accident

| (Google+)

pianoSince yesterday was Thanksgiving, I wanted to share a rare story about an accident injury that seems to have actually led to something positive and hopeful.

Derek Amato of Lafayette, Colorado claims to have been unable to play piano before he suffered a concussion; but now, he is composing constantly.

Kim Posey of KDVR FOX 31 reports:

‘I’m considered an acquired savant from a brain trauma or brain injury,’ [Amato] said.

He dove into the shallow end of a swimming pool and hit the bottom, Amato explained. A short time later, he sat at a friend’s piano and discovered he was able to play.

‘It was immediate, so there wasn’t a transition,’ said Amato. ‘It was just I could play suddenly.’

Here is the video segment that KDVR put together with Amato right after he returned from filming a special at the Mayo Clinic for the Discovery Channel:

Accidents happen every day, often with tragic consequences. Mr. Amato’s accident, while the only one of its type on record, is something that he can actually be thankful for.

My daughter and I first consulted with Dan Rosen after a very serious auto accident. Dan had several phone conferences with me, and Tracie was available whenever I called. We would recommend personal injury attorney Dan Rosen to anyone!
