Driver Crashes into Colorado Springs Houses
Motor vehicle accidents usually involve a car or a truck hitting another car/truck/motorcycle, or a pedestrian. Not this time. This time, the accident I am writing about involves a car hitting a house. Two houses, if reports are to be credited.
Just before 2 a.m. in the Colorado Springs neighborhood around the 4600 Block of El Camino Drive (near Academy Boulevard and Flintridge Drive), the nighttime quiet was broken by the noise of collisions. Fox 21 brings us a rundown:
Police said the man was driving home from a nearby bar when he went off the road, striking one house, then another. He then got out of the car and was confronted by one of the homeowners.
Police said that homeowner became fearful for his safety and fired a gunshot into the air as a warning.
The driver fled after the warning shot and was apprehended by police shortly thereafter in the 3700 block of Meadowland Blvd. Forty-year-old Shawn Heidenkruger was arrested for DUI and a variety of traffic charges.
KKTV reports on the injuries sustained in this unusual crash:
One of the houses that were hit sustained structural damage. None of the people living in the homes were hurt, but Heidenkruger sustained minor injuries in the crash.
Think about the kind of impact that would cause structural damage to a building. Think about what would have occurred if the driver had struck a pedestrian with that same force, or a bicycle, or a motorcycle…
