Allstate Ranks Fort Collins as Safest Driving City
The Allstate Insurance Co. released its yearly ranking of cities by driver safety, and Fort Collins, Colorado, has been ranked the safest in the U.S. With all of the negative news and tragic car accidents we hear about on a daily basis, it is time to take a moment and look at some good news for a change.
Mark Harden, a writer for The Denver Business Journal, reports:
On average, Fort Collins drivers will have an auto collision once every 14.5 years, and collisions there are 31 percent less likely than the national average, the Northbrook, Ill.-based insurer (NYSE: ALL) said.
And in Colorado Springs, motorists get in accidents an average of once every 12.5 years, and collisions are 20 percent less likely than the national norm, the company said.
The report is based on Allstate claims data.
The news was welcomed by the city, as US Insurance Online reports:
‘Once again, the people of Fort Collins have made me proud to live in this community,’ Fort Collins Mayor Doug Hutchinson said in a statement released by Allstate. ‘Becoming America’s safest driving city takes quality roads and infrastructure. But more than anything else, it’s the result of individuals taking responsibility for keeping our streets safe.’
Last year, Fort Collins ranked number two nationally, while Colorado Springs was ranked number 10. Denver ranks number 45 with an accident likelihood that is five percent below the national average. Allstate has noted that the Rocky Mountain and Appalachian cities contain the safest drivers in the nation, regionally.
Of course, this news does not mean that one should be complacent. As a quick perusal of this blog will demonstrate, car accidents still occur in these areas, and the consequences can still be shattering. A fatal accident is the same — whether it happens in the safest city for driving or the worst (which is Washington D.C., according to the Allstate report).
So congratualtions to Fort Collins! Keep your seat belts buckled and be aware of the road. Let’s see if we can keep that number-one spot in next year’s report!
