Fatal Three-Vehicle Accident in Mariposa County, CA
Mariposa County, CA was the scene of a recent triple-vehicle accident involving two SUVs and a motorcycle.
B.J. Hansen, MyMotherLode.com news director, describes the crash:
The CHP reports that 18-year-old Marissa Fuqua was traveling east on Highway 140 near Colorado Road when she allowed her Ford Bronco to cross over the double yellow lines. She first collided head-on with a Harley Davidson Motorcycle and then a Ford Escape.
Fuqua and the Ford Bronco’s three passengers were taken to local area hospitals with personal injuries ranging from major to moderate. The motorcycle and Ford Escape were in much worse shape. Cyndee Fontana, a reporter for The Fresno Bee, identifies the two people on the motorcycle and the driver of the Escape who were killed in the tragic accident:
Deana Smith, 39, and Michael Smith, 43, both of Chowchilla, died in the 3:10 p.m. accident on Highway 140 in the Midpines area, officials said.
Authorities previously had identified Sharon Law, 55, of El Portal, as the other person pronounced dead following the accident just east of Colorado Road.
Highway Patrol is currently investigating the accident. According to their reports, at this time neither drugs nor alcohol seem to have contributed to the three-vehicle collision.
This is another example of how vulnerable motorcyclists can be in an accident.
